Role Outline

Sweepsouth is looking for an experienced and commercially minded Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our Executive Team and lead the financial strategy of the business.

 
As a strategic partner to the CEO, the CFO will be responsible for shaping and executing Sweepsouth’s financial strategy to support sustainable growth, long-term value creation and organisational impact. The role oversees financial operations across South Africa and Egypt and is responsible for ensuring strong financial performance, governance, risk management and regulatory compliance across both markets.

This is a hands-on executive leadership role that goes beyond traditional finance. The CFO will work closely with the CEO, Board and Executive Team, using financial modelling, forecasting and data-driven insights to inform key decisions around growth, pricing, resource allocation, funding and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Shape and execute Sweepsouth’s financial strategy, ensuring alignment with the company’s growth, profitability and long-term objectives.
  • Lead the budgeting, forecasting and scenario-planning processes, translating financial and operational data into clear, actionable business insights.
  • Provide strategic financial advice to the CEO, Executive Team and Board on growth opportunities, pricing, resource allocation, operational efficiency and investment decisions.
  • Oversee end-to-end financial management across South Africa and Egypt, including financial reporting, accounting, cash flow management, payroll operations and statutory compliance.
  • Maintain strong financial governance, internal controls and enterprise-wide risk management frameworks.
  • Prepare and present clear financial and operational performance reporting to the Board, shareholders and other key stakeholders.
  • Support fundraising and capital strategy through financial modelling, scenario analysis, forecasting and the preparation of investor materials.
  • Partner closely with Operations, Product and Commercial teams to evaluate new initiatives, expansion opportunities and strategic investments.
  • Drive financial accountability across the organisation by embedding financial insight and commercial thinking into business decision-making.
  • Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing Finance team, building capability, accountability and succession within the function.
  • Oversee statutory, tax, audit, regulatory and governance requirements across the business.
  • Identify and proactively manage financial and operational risks, providing clear recommendations to the CEO and Board.
  • Drive automation, digitisation and process improvements across Finance to improve accuracy, efficiency and scalability.
  • Strengthen the use of analytics and data across the organisation to support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Build strong relationships with investors, auditors, banks, regulatory bodies and other external stakeholders.

 

Requirements:

  • CA(SA), CIMA or equivalent professional finance qualification; MBA advantageous.
  • Registration the relevant professional body, where applicable.
  • 10 + years’ experience in senior finance roles, including at least 2 years in executive or senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience shaping financial strategy and contributing to broader organisational strategy and growth.
  • Strong FP&A, financial accounting, reporting, budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling capability.
  • Experience supporting fundraising, capital allocation and investor engagement.
  • Strong understanding of financial governance, internal controls, risk management and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven experience leading and developing high-performing Finance teams.
  • Strong commercial judgement with the ability to translate complex financial information into clear business insights and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and partner effectively with senior leaders, Boards, investors and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong understanding of digital commerce, marketplaces and technology-driven business models.
  • Experience working across multiple markets or jurisdictions would be advantageous.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial and reporting systems and tools; experience with platforms such as Xero, ApprovalMax, Dext and Sisense would be beneficial.
